With the myriad of logging, contest, propagation and other programs that have become a part of amateur radio, your computer screen real estate is a valuable asset. This is particularly true for those using a laptops as well as traditional PCs. So here is an option that may help if you run the Windows XP series operating system. Microsoft offers, for free, a feature call, “Microsoft Power Toys for Windows XP”. Among several nice tools is one called, “Virtual Desktop Manager”. It allows you to select between four differently configured desktop arrangements. For example, one desktop could be your DXpedition or contest logging program while the next could be a propagation program and so on up to four desktop configurations. Each is selected by the click of a radio button at the bottom of the screen. Therefore, you can virtually expand the size of you computer screen with the click of the mouse.
