A small A sunspot group appeared today at latitude -28 degrees. This
tiny feature belongs to the new solar cycle and is the first one to
appear in the Southern hemisphere.
No significant activity is expected
from this group

SFI = 66 A = 5 K = 1
look's like a 2nd low comming on to match the double peak that occured

Just an FYI! On Sunday 06/08/2008 the three solar flux values measured at
Pentiction, BC, Canada were 64.8 64.9 64.9. The 64.8 value is the second
lowest of the current solar minimum.
The lowest SFI of 64.4 occurred on
09/28/2007.

Using the smoothed sunspot number solar cycle 23 minimum was in October 2007
with a value of 3.0. Looking at the values below you can see that solar
cycle 24 has pretty much stalled since December 2007.

October 2007- 3.0
November 2007- 6.9
December 2007- 8.1
January 2008- 8.5
February 2008- 8.4
March 2008- 8.4
April 2008- 8.9

It is anecdotal evidence of a later and smaller solar cycle 24 peak. But what is not anecdotal evidence is a later and smaller solar cycle 24
peak due to the slowing of the Sun's internal meridional circulation (kind
of like a conveyor belt) that normally moves at 1 meter per second. In the
past ten years the circulation has slowed to approximately .75 meters per
second in the north and .35 meters per second in the south, the slowest
since the 19th century.

The Dalton Minimum was a period of low solar activity, lasting from
about 1790 to 1830 [1]. Like the Maunder Minimum and Spörer Minimum it
coincided with a period of lower than average global temperatures. Low
solar activity seems to be strongly correlated with global cooling
.

A detailed analysis with the auroral and solar data has been given by
Wilfried Schröder, N. N. Shefov in a paper in Ann. Geophys. 2004, also
details can be found in Wilfried Schröder, Das Phänomen des
Polarlichts (The aurora in time), Darmstadt, Wissenschaftliche
Buchgeselllschaft 1984 and Science Edition, Bremen, 2000.
