On the less technical side, the local 147.435 repeater provides a dose of "alternative" ham radio. Sometimes it's just garbage, but at least 435 is always alive even if it's sometimes... ok, frequently... crass, vicious, and host to morons, windbags, bootleggers, jammers, dolts, misfits and sociopaths. But most of the user group is really ok and regularly hilarious. They evidence a fair amount of intellect and, ultimately, forebearance for the idiosyncracies of others.
