2 common faults,
the main one is the way the wire is connected to the frame/body of the S0239.. this is just a rivit es it does RUST es cause intermittent connection eg SWR changes for no apperant reason!! but can also be caused by pressure of cable moving on the SO239 skt ,drill out rivit es replace with ss c/s metal thread screw es nut after cleaning all the rust away!!
..also the 2 lugs for connnecting to the ant can come loose es cause the solder joints the fracture es cause intermittent conection..'glue the bosses es re solder..
Early units were held together with small self tappers screws so easy to pull apart es fix, latter were glued but a sharp knife will split them open along the join be carefull one slip es ur finger will become vy red hi hi
