A moderate to major geomagnetic storm (Kp=5-6) is in progress since
yesterday March 18, around 20:00UT
. It was caused by a new rise of the
, with simultaneous wide Southward excursions
of the Bz component of the IMF. All ground-based magnetographs currently
show a decrease of the geomagnetic activity. However, as the solar wind
speed stays high, we still expect possible active to minor storm surges
in the next 12 to 24h.
