A B2.1 long-duration flare has been registered in the NOAA AR
0856 (no Catania number) yesterday peaking at 15:15 UT
. Coronal dimmings
and post-eruption arcade observed by GOES-12/SXI evidence the eruption
of a CME. There is no SOHO/LASCO data for this period due to spacecraft
maneuvers, so we cannot establish the speed, angular width and direction
of the CME
. Given the position of the active region at W39, the arrival
of the CME-associated disturbance is not very likely, although not
excluded. So, a geomagnetic disturbance (probably not stronger than the
minor storm level) may occur on March 10
. The interplanetary magnetic
field is currently weak (around 4 nT), so we do not expect any
geomagnetic disturbances in the coming hours.
