A B2.1 long-duration flare has been registered in the NOAA AR
0856 (no Catania number) yesterday peaking at 15:15 UT. Coronal dimmings
and post-eruption arcade observed by GOES-12/SXI evidence the eruption
of a CME. There is no SOHO/LASCO data for this period due to spacecraft
maneuvers, so we cannot establish the speed, angular width and direction
of the CME. Given the position of the active region at W39, the arrival
of the CME-associated disturbance is not very likely, although not
excluded. So, a geomagnetic disturbance (probably not stronger than the
minor storm level) may occur on March 10. The interplanetary magnetic
field is currently weak (around 4 nT), so we do not expect any
geomagnetic disturbances in the coming hours.
