Posted - 08 Mar 2006 : 06:32:53 AM COMMENT: There is still no flaring activity. Yesterday evening, the B-z component of the IMF made a strong negative excursion leading to a Kp of 4 for 6 hours early March 07. The source of this disturbance is unclear but can be possibly linked to a small (not recurrent) northern coronal hole according to solar models. ACE-data have a coronal hole profile. Late March 09, it is possible at we will be under the influence of a recurrent coronal hole which today passes the central meridian. We don't have information about the extent of the coronal hole because of the EIT bakeout. SOHO/MDI and solar models gives evidence that the hole is still situated mainly in the northern hemisphere. of the sun |
